I would like to start out by saying how very much we appreciate all of your encouraging notes, the prayers, and the sacrifices that you make for the sake of the success of this ministry. You are truly the best partners in the world!
This year has been an amazing faith journey so far and it’s only February! A few weeks ago James Shuttleworth, Derek Brakefield, and I went on a ten day trip to Guatemala. It felt like the Lord was running me through some sort of holy taffy machine stretching my faith over and over again. In the end, it seems clearer than ever that complete dependence on the Lord is absolutely critical!
While in Guatemala, we were able to visit pastors and deliver Christmas gifts that a Sunday school class had put together that I had not delivered earlier due to a bout with pneumonia over the Christmas season. We also bounced back and forth over the mountains delivering bible school materials for three new schools that are being started.
Upon arriving in the village of Plan del Moro we found out that the pastor was down the mountain in the city for the day. His sons offered to take me to my horse Titus. So, we walked for about forty five minutes until we found him standing in a field of corn and dry grass (horse heaven)! I hardly recognized him. He must have lost more than 200 pounds!
I asked the Pastor’s sons if he had water and they said: yes. I asked if we could give him some because he looked a bit thirsty to me. After hiking for an hour with Titus in tow, we came to a pathetically small water source, trickling into a pool about six feet across and twelve inches deep. At that moment, my heart went from being broken for Titus to being broken for these mountain people who had no water as they enter the dry season! Standing there, it felt like God’s heart for these people had allowed us to see their suffering. But what could be done? We already have bible schools to start, an orphanage to build and we have no equipment, materials, or finances for such a daunting task as drilling a well through solid rock on top of a mountain!
Recently, however, I had a dream that we were walking along in that same village and climbed up those same rocks to see the source of the water and wondered if the rock could be blasted apart or would it just collapse the aquifer? Then suddenly in the dream we were across the valley on another mountain top where we had done a medical outreach last year. The very isolated people who live there mine giant blocks of marble from the top of the mountain. As we looked at this flat, white, cliff face, I noticed that they had first drilled a hole from the top straight down through the marble. So, up there, in the middle of nowhere, was the equipment and manpower to drill the impossible well. What we thought impossible these marble miners do every day.
I called Pastor Noah that morning and shared with him the dream and we praised the Lord together for God’s goodness. Please remember this as we look for an opportunity to talk with these men about helping us help the families who are suffering there.
We praise the Lord with gratitude in the midst of difficulties and successes for your faithful partnership. In the months ahead please remember our family, and the work at hand.
